Off Trail

I find myself painting versions of this scene often: a backlit mountain creek
running through the woods as it ripples over the stones.
I guess that's because such a scene is one of my favorite places to be and as
such I am never quite satisfied with my interpretation on paper. It's a lot to ask:
capturing the beauty of an area as well as all the wonderful
feelings and thoughts you held while there.
But I will keep trying.
Hope you don't tire of this scene...I can guarantee there are many more interpretations
waiting to be painted!
Pastel, 5 x 5
matted in white, 12 x 9
comes framed in black

Crayola Colors

I set up near the parking lot of the Oconaluftee Visitor Center of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park so I knew I would be interrupted some.  No matter, I was in a colorful, happy mood so pulled out just a few strong colors and a black panel and set to work just having a little fun in the sun.

I was stretching when a woman asked if I minded being interrupted.  "Not at all," I answered and we chatted amicably about her (and my) love for color and the fall day and so on.
"Well," she concluded, "I really appreciate you talking to me about your work.
There was a feller here last week who got real angry if you watched him paint
or spoke to him."
She paused and then added,
"But that's o.k. I guess - he was a real artist."

I'm still laughing over that....the painting was worth it!
