The Grasshopper's Feast

I love the intricate detail Mother Nature bestows upon her creations...there is hardly any way man can do it justice!  But we can try.

This 8" x 6" painting on board is titled "The Grasshopper's Feast" after a wonderful little poem that William Roscoe (a lawyer, banker and member of Parliament representing Liverpool) wrote for his son back in 1802.  The poem is titled "The Butterfly's Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast." Originally I had many grasshoppers in this piece but slowly I decided to eliminate most of them (...see if you can find hints of any that remain.)  Anyway, I share with you my favorite part of the poem which is also written on the painting:
"The the Grasshopper came with a Jerk and a Spring,
Very long was his Leg, though but short was his Wing.
He took but three Leaps, and was soon out of sight,
Then chirp'd his own Praises the rest of the Night."

And, just in case you love nature photos as much as I do, check out this blog:
"One" has graciously given me permission to work from the incredible photos posted so stay tuned for more work inspired by Mother Nature and a bit of help from her many friends.
