Out On a Limb -- With Paint

I've been known to paint most anything that did not run away from my brush: chairs, shoes, doors, canvases, boards, fences...even wine glasses and shirts.  You got the picture.  So as I stumbled across some limbs a friend had trimmed from his black cherry tree an idea came to mind.

If we slanted the top of the pieces just a tad I could probably paint on them.  He was game and sent me home with a box of raw limbs cut on an angle.  I played around with one and determined they needed to dry a bit so I put the whole box in the water heater closet.  A year later I stumbled across them again...now ready to sand down, be coated with clear gesso to and put into creative use.

Being tiny little "frames" I was not ready to paint very detailed works of art on them so I played around and had a bit of fun.

...then I imagined having one for each season, and how about for each holiday?  One could change them out in a tiny corner for something appropriate for the calendar.  So my table of limbs and paint calls to me when I need to chill out and have some creative fun.  I do these with liquid acrylics and coat them with a protective satin finish.  I love leaving the natural bark, lichen and mosses on the limbs.

My little collection is growing...(Easter, Christmas, Summer, Spring...) come on by the studio or email me if you are interested in one, or some, they will go home with you for a mere $15.00 each.

Sometimes art needs to be as "fun" as it is "fine."
