A little Sketchy

Just sharing a few pages from my vacation sketch book.  Usually I am relunctant to carry around my book and pencils but this time I bought a children's size paperback book (perfect for making notes) and put a few pencils in an eyeglass case.  Voila!  It fit perfectly into my tiny hiking pack and/or my purse.  No excuses for not getting the pages filled.

And even when I only had the back of an airplane seat to look at I managed to get to an old challenge of designing a personal quilt square which is harder than it sounds.  I wanted to call it "Birds and Bottles" and it took a little math to make it all come out right.

Now the challenge will be whether to paint it, collage it or sew it....not sure.

But I'm looking forward to rereading my sketching notes and making some paintings based on them.
Most of what I laid out seemed to evoke the vastness of the scenery...
Montana being the Big Sky Country and Wyoming with its miles and miles
of rolling, golden land...not at all like the east!

  1. This is awesome- thanks for sharing your sketchbook notes. Seeing how other artists organize, plan and see the world is always inspiring.

Now I'll be curious and keeping an eye out for what comes out of these.
    (and you're so multi-talented!)

  2. I am so jealous! And I love your sketchbook format. I don't know why painters feel we have to paint when we go on vacation - sketching and taking pictures is perfect! Enjoy!

  4. Thanks fellow painters, I too struggle while travelling so I decided to see just how simple I could make it. This little book (sold for children to make stories by Canson) was a breeze...no excuses! I actually enjoyed it and felt unobtrusive.

    Many thanks, Cindy!
